What’s not to like from the American Ska punk band The Interrupters? Formed in 2011 they quickly gained popularity and they are nowadays a household name on big festivals and tours. Our crewmember Floris listed his top 5 songs by The Interrupters. What are your favourites?
1. She’s Kerosine
The most catchy and popular song of The Interrupters. This song is about a man escaping a toxic relationship and the lyrics are just written so well. Three minutes of skanking madness, a beautiful bass tone and a verse that will never leave your head. Definitively my favourite one of The Interrupters!
2. Raised By Wolves
This song tells the story of an individual who experienced childhood abandonment and had to adapt to self-sufficiency, akin to a wolf. Their absent parent, perhaps plagued by dishonesty or alcoholism, left them to fend for themselves. Despite bearing the scars of emotional wounds and enduring a fractured life, they’ve grown resilient and found the strength to forgive those who inflicted pain upon them. Huge chorus and it’s very danceable!
3. In The Mirror
Vocalist Aimee Interrupter reflects, “I found myself trapped in numerous self-destructive patterns as I grappled with my upbringing. I dedicated a significant portion of my life to attempting to escape the anguish. Regardless of how great a distance I put between me and my past, I couldn’t escape myself… It dawned on me that I had to reconcile with the person I saw in the mirror.”
4. Got Each Other
This song featuring Rancid is a heartfelt anthem celebrating the strength of friendship and community bonds. The song’s lyrics convey a powerful message of inclusivity and reaching out to those who may be feeling isolated or alone.
5. On A Turntable
A more old-school vibe! Love it! Despite their concerns and indulgence in alcohol, a sense of clarity persists. The record continues to spin on repeat, mirroring the ceaseless motion of life itself.
