Skinhead bible

Quote from Floris Vermeer on June 4, 2025, 6:41 pmI’ve started working on a new Skinhead Bible – a complete guide to the culture, style, language, history, and everything in between.
This won’t be a copy of Spirit of '69, but something updated and more complete. A reference for anyone who wants to understand what Skinhead is really about – the clothes, the codes, the subcultures, the politics, the music, and the roots.
What it will include:
A full A–Z Skinhead Dictionary: from Airtex to Zionism, covering slang, brands, nicknames, and hidden meanings
Number codes: 1312, 28, 88, 2112, and more – explained clearly
Style guide: boots, braces, Ben Shermans, Harringtons, Sta-Prest, Fred Perry, etc.
Subcultures: SHARP, RASH, Trad Skinheads, Boneheads, Trojan Skins, and more
Music and media: Oi!, ska, reggae, punk, key records, films, and scenes
Cultural context: how the scene has changed, splintered, evolved – and how it’s still alive
This will be a serious project, not a meme or a joke. I want it to be something that documents the past and present, and also helps younger skins understand the roots without the internet watering everything down.
Want to help?
If you:
Have terms I should include
Want to fact-check or explain parts of the culture
Have personal stories, scans of old flyers, fanzines, patches, whatever
Or just care about Skinhead and want it represented properly
Then post below or DM me. I’ll give credit to contributors. This will be available online for free when it's ready, and maybe printed later.
Let’s make this the best documentation of Skinhead culture out there. Not just nostalgia – but truth, style, and pride.
