Essex-based punk duo The Meffs are fairly new in the punkrock music scene but they are already gaining quite some attention within the scene. A few months ago they released their hot new EP ‘Broken Britain Pt.1’ through Bottles To The Ground Records. This hidden gem was produced by legendary punk rocker and songwriter Frank Turner (Million Dead, solo career).
The EP tackles a wide range of issues, including intolerance, social differences, politics, misuse of power, and gender equality, all with a raw and unapologetic energy that captures the spirit of punk. Musically The Meffs sound like straight-up punk music and what’s really nice about the overall sound is that even without a bass player the mix sounds really full and thick. Broken Britain, Broken Brains kicks off this 6-piece EP and is mostly about the fast pace of the modern world we live in. Catchy riffs and hooks are the main ingredients for The Meffs. Do they reinvent the wheel? No, but everything just sounds really tasty.
Perhaps the most compelling track on the EP is “Wasted on Women,” which tackles the issue of gender inequality head-on. The song is a rallying cry for women everywhere to fight for their rights and refuse to be silenced or marginalized. With its driving rhythms and powerful lyrics, “Wasted on Women” is a standout moment on the EP and a testament to The Meffs’ ability to use music as a tool for social change.
Overall, The Meffs’ EP is a nice collection of punk music and social commentary. With their memorable melodies, raw energy, and unapologetic attitude, The Meffs are here to showcase what most people don’t want to hear! And be aware, the duo is already working on a second part releasing somewhere in 2023. We are looking forward!
