Birdfist might not be a household name yet, but their debut release, This One’s For The Birds, proves they’ve got the guts and grit to make some noise. Signed to No Front Teeth Records – a label known for championing underground punk – this lot deliver ten tracks of boozy, boot-stomping anthems that sound like they’ve been dug up from the golden era of late ‘70s street punk.
Right from the opener, Armoured Wank Ball, it’s clear these lot know how to write a chant-worthy tune—football terrace vibes, “ole ole ole” gang vocals, and all. Sink Some Pints and Mobbed Up and On The Piss are instant singalongs, perfect for nights when the beer’s flowing and boots are stomping. Cut and Carried (with its male vocals and sharp guitar leads) and the title track, This One’s For The Birds—a proper tribute to the skinhead girls (Byrds) in the scene—show there’s real variety here too.
Sure, a couple of tracks could hit harder with tighter production, but that almost adds to the charm – it’s rough, ready, and full of spirit. If you’re into Hard Skin, The Partisans, or just love a proper punk anthem, Birdfist have delivered a cracking first record.
