Spiritbox is back with their second album, ‘Tsunami Sea,’ and it’s an absolute rollercoaster of modern metal and metalcore. The Canadian band has made waves by seamlessly blending different elements and adding a touch of pop to their sound.
Courtney LaPlante is a force to be reckoned with. Her vocal range is incredible, switching from intense screams to smooth, melodic cleans without missing a beat. This versatility has earned Spiritbox some well-deserved Grammy nominations and spots on major tours, including one with Linkin Park.

The album starts with Fata Morgana, which sets the stage with aggressive verses and angelic choruses that highlight LaPlante’s dynamic performance. Tracks like Soft Spine, Black Rainbow, and No Loss, No Love bring the heat with relentless energy, while ‘Perfect Soul,’ ‘Deep End,’ and the title track take a more melodic approach.
Spiritbox doesn’t shy away from experimenting either. Keep Sweet and Crystal Roses introduce electronic elements that add a unique twist to their sound. While Crystal Roses might not pack the same punch as their heavier tracks, its liquid drum and bass sections offer a refreshing change.
There are a couple of tracks that don’t quite hit the mark, like Ride The Wave, but overall, Spiritbox’s ambitious songwriting shines through. The production is top-notch, adding impact and texture to each track.
Lyrically, Tsunami Sea dives deep into themes of inner turmoil and resilience, using water imagery to create a vivid and emotional experience. The title track’s Deftones-inspired rhythms and the intense metaphors in No Loss, No Love tie everything together, making for a cohesive and immersive listen.
In summary, Tsunami Sea is a confident and powerful album that proves Spiritbox is at the top of their game. This album reaffirms the vitality of heavy music in 2025 and showcases their innovative approach to modern metal.
