Carl Jahier, frontman of the influential French Oi! band Komintern Sect, died on 10 May 2025 in Orléans following a battle with a degenerative illness. He was 64.
As the co-founder and voice of Komintern Sect, Carl played a central role in shaping the French punk and Oi! scene from the early 1980s. Known for his raw delivery and sharp lyrics, he helped craft genre-defining albums like Les Seigneurs de la guerre and Les Uns sans les autres. The band disbanded in 1986 but returned in 2014, performing internationally until their final show in late 2024.

In Barcelona, Carl was also fondly remembered as the cheerful presence behind the bar at BBC, where he became a beloved local figure.
Tributes have flooded in across social media, where fans and fellow musicians continue to honour his legacy using hashtags such as #CarlKominternSect and #OiLegend. A funeral service was held on 22 May in Orléans.
Big loss for the scene. RIP!
