They might’ve stepped away for a while, but Bridge The Gap hasn’t missed a beat. Formed back in the ‘90s, the members put things on hold to raise families and live life, but after reconnecting in 2020, they came back swinging. Following up their debut Secret Kombinations, the band returned to The Blasting Room just 20 months later to record Gainsayer with Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore at the controls.

Across 14 tracks, Bridge The Gap trade in razor-sharp melodic punk with a focus on songwriting over flash. It’s fast and tight, but always tuneful – drawing clear lines to Strung Out, No Use For A Name, and Suffer-era Bad Religion. You’ll find the gallop of No Profit In Peace, the alt-rock-tinged ease of Broken Language, and the Rise Against-styled urgency of Useless Organs. Brothers lightens the mood slightly, while ‘Babylon’ and ‘Dixie Downer’ inject some grit before the final sprint.
Jensen’s vocals ride the line between earnest and biting, and the band’s decision to prioritise melody pays off more often than not. At times, the album sticks close to its influences – occasionally too close – but the intent is clear: Gainsayer isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. It’s a tight, cohesive effort built on friendship, history, and a second wind.
Released via Double Helix with SBAM and Pee Records handling global duties, Gainsayer has already made a mark on underground charts and airwaves. A handful of coloured vinyl editions are out now if you’re the collector type.
