As a follow-up to their successful predecessor EP, UK-based duo The Meffs have released ‘Broken Britain Pt. 2‘, a five-track collection of punk anthems that pick up where their first EP left off. Produced once again by punk rock legend Frank Turner, the EP features the raw and unapologetic energy that we all like about punk music.
‘No Future‘ kicks off the EP with a high-octane blast of punk rock fury that tackles the bleak prospects facing (young) people in today’s world. The Meffs’ ability to blend catchy riffs and hooks with socially conscious lyrics is on full display in this track. ‘Dead In The City’ is a slower-paced song and is mainly about how govnerments fail to run a country. The strong lyrics ‘How many people does it take to run a country? How many people does is take to make a mess?’ need no explanation. Very strong track in my humble opinion!
The fast-pace song ‘Sex Sells‘ is the shortest song on the EP and is about living your life online and that thing we see online tends to be quite fake. Television, Instagram, Tiktok. You know the drill! The final track ‘War’ is a bit slower and stands out a lot squeezed in between the fast punk songs.
Overall, ‘Broken Britain Pt. 2′ is a solid sequal of punk anthems that delivers both musically and lyrically. To be fair nothing new on the horizon, but again a solid effort. The Meffs are currently on tour throughout the UK, so if you like what you hear go see them!
